How early do the sunrise tours start?
Sunrise tours require very early starts: Bromo pickup is around 3:00–3:30 AM, and the Ijen trek begins even earlier, around 12:00–12:30 AM.
Is it guaranteed that we will see the Ijen Blue Fire?
We schedule the hike for the best viewing time, but visibility of the Blue Fire and the sunrise is dependent on daily weather and sulfur gas activity.
Is a gas mask mandatory, and is it provided?
A gas mask is absolutely mandatory for the crater area. We provide high-quality, professional masks on our tours; do not attempt the descent without one.
What is the most important clothing or gear to bring?
Warm layers are essential as pre-sunrise temperatures can drop to near freezing. Bring a warm jacket, hat, gloves, and a scarf. Also, carry a face mask or bandana to protect against the fine dust and volcanic ash when crossing the Sea of Sand.
